Willsboro Sheep Barn

19 X 36 feet | Circa 1840 | Willsboro, NY

This handsome barn from Willsboro, NY in Essex County was originally built for sheep. The loft framing was low in order to help the sheep to stay warm in the winter, and to provide extra hay storage in the second floor. The barn was moved onto a stone wall and concrete piers in the early 1900s in order to provide more room underneath for cows to inhabit. The frame has very nice hand hewn 36 foot top plates in excellent condition, and beautiful roof boards. We imagine this frame re-erected on piers or stone faced walls in order to provide extra head room or equipment storage underneath.

Details:

  • 684 square feet of footprint with great potential for a partial or full loft

  • Hand hewn softwood beams

  • Half round pine rafters

  • Two beams that measure 36 feet in length

  • High knee wall provides room for a spacious loft

  • We will provide the restored frame, erected on your foundation, with the original roof boards installed

Possibilities:

This barn would make a wonderful animal or storage barn, garage, or could be a cabin living space with a partial loft. One eave could be left open for equipment and set on stone or concrete piers. The upstairs could be for hay storage once more, or would make a lovely living area if the barn is insulated.
