About the event
GMTF is pleased to host master artisan and timber framer, Seth Kelley of Knobb Hill Joinery, on Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Seth will conduct demonstrations and a workshop on wooden peg drawing, where participants will learn the basics of green woodworking by riving (splitting) and shaping wooden pegs using a froe, mallet, and drawknives on a shaving horse. Pegs, also known as trenails, trennels, or trunnels, are pivotal elements in holding mortise and tenon joinery together. The basic skills used to make them transfer to a myriad of other green woodworking techniques. The skills learned and practiced will be versatile.
A shaving horse (also known as a shave horse or schnitzelbank) is a traditional, foot-operated clamping device used in green woodworking to securely hold materials while shaping it with a drawknife or spokeshave. It acts as a hands-free, seated vise.
