About the event

The team at Green Mountain Timber Frames is excited to announce that we will be erecting an historic blacksmith shop at our business location on West Street in Middletown Springs. The 1890’s barn was originally built in Benson, Vermont, and was the smithy that primarily made and repaired parts for the L.B. Cook Spoke Factory and Saw Mill. We are honored to have been able to save the shop and re-erect it in Middletown Springs to serve as a place for the community to learn the traditional skills of blacksmithing.

Open House, Potluck Dinner and Open Music Jam

Timber frame construction has always been about community – friends and neighbors coming together to help one another put up houses and barns. We want to honor that tradition by inviting our neighbors, friends and family for a two-day barn raising celebration.

The community is invited to an Open House on Wednesday, May 31 from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. Luke will offer a barn raising blessing at 8:15 a.m. Stay to watch the crew assemble the 1890’s blacksmith shop, enjoy coffee and pastries in the Rueben Wait Barn and check out the 80 foot McKie Barn that we put up last fall!

By Thursday, June 1, we should have the rafters and roof boards applied to the blacksmith shop. We look forward to ending the workday with a celebratory potluck dinner, music, and dancing! The gathering will start at 6:00 p.m. We will be grilling; please bring a dish to share, your beverage of choice, and an instrument to play.

Please contact sara@greenmountaintimberframes.com with questions.

This project is being documented by a professional film crew. They will be filming the barn raising and the celebrations. You may be asked to sign a release form giving permission to be filmed and photographed. We also ask that you refrain from posting and sharing pictures of the project on social media, blogs, websites, etc. We are grateful for your support and cooperation.
