Cox District Road Mid 1800's Barn
30x40 | Circa 1850 | West Woodstock, Vermont
This barn was built on the corner of Cox District Road and West Woodstock Road on an expanding farm on the banks of the Ottauqueechee River. This structure measures 30 feet 2 inches by 40 feet and 2 inches. It is a four bent structure, and was built as an addition to an existing late 1700s threshing barn on a farm that was thriving. With changing agricultural practices, this barn was built to supplement the farm’s capacity for additional cows and for the storage of the hay to feed them. Livestock was housed and milked in the lower section of the barn, and a massive hay mow was designed in the second floor. A trap door and ladder allowed quick access between levels, and hay was fed down from the second floor all winter long. A wooden air vent was installed to move air from the cow level up through the hay and out the peak. It has been a landmark structure along the well traveled Route-4 corridor. This barn is still standing. Please reach out to make an appointment for viewing.

It is rare to find a barn with a full second floor, and this structure is in excellent condition.
